In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Florida medical equipment maker Blue Cross Blue Shield said that President Donald Trump was “an absolute embarrassment” and “unfit to be president.”
“I am heartbroken by the president’s tweets, but the fact is, he is an absolute disgrace,” Blue Cross president and CEO David J. Johnson said in a statement.
“I can’t imagine a more disrespectful person for a president.
Our nation is in mourning and I am proud to say we have Blue Cross, one of the largest providers of health care to all Floridians, on our team.”
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida are the two largest private insurers in Florida.
The company said that the president and his aides are in violation of federal law.
“The tweets from Mr. Trump are utterly inappropriate, disrespectful and irresponsible.
We are deeply disappointed in the president,” Blue Shield spokeswoman Lauren Williams said in an email to NBC News.
Johnson also said that Blue Cross will stop accepting business from Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, who are both White House officials.
“Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are a very important part of our family.
We respect their right to express their views on a variety of issues without fear of retribution,” he said.”
However, they have a moral responsibility to the public that they must not seek to profit from public office,” he added.
“They have a duty to protect our country and our families.
We will no longer take business from them.”
